LINDUNG 24 Jam, officially known as Skim Kemalangan Bukan Bencana Kerja (SKBBK), is a social security scheme introduced by PERKESO (SOCSO) to provide protection for employees who are involved in non-work-related accidents that happen outside working hours.

The scheme came into effect on 1 June 2026 to strengthen Malaysia's social security system by extending protection beyond workplace and commuting accidents. Following the Cabinet decision announced on 8 July 2026, participation became voluntary for Malaysian employees, while it remains mandatory for foreign workers.

This guide explains what LINDUNG 24 Jam is, who it applies to, what it covers, how much employees contribute, and what you should know before deciding whether to remain in the scheme or opt out.

What Is LINDUNG 24 Jam?

Before LINDUNG 24 Jam was introduced, PERKESO mainly protected employees against:

  1. Workplace accidents
  2. Occupational diseases
  3. Accidents while travelling to or from work

However, accidents that occurred during an employee's personal time, such as at home or while exercising, were generally not covered.

LINDUNG 24 Jam fills this gap by providing protection for eligible employees who suffer non-employment accidents within Malaysia.

Is LINDUNG 24 Jam Mandatory?

Initially, the scheme was introduced as mandatory for Malaysian employees. However, after receiving public feedback, the Government announced that participation would become voluntary for Malaysian citizens.

The current rules are:

Participation

Malaysian employees

Voluntary

Foreign workers

Mandatory

Malaysian employees are included in the scheme by default unless they submit an opt-out declaration through PERKESO's Portal Lindung Faedah during the period announced by PERKESO.

Can You Opt Out?

Yes. Malaysian employees may choose to opt out by submitting the required declaration through Portal Lindung Faedah, subject to PERKESO's latest procedures and deadlines.

If you remain in the scheme, deductions will continue through payroll and you will be covered for eligible non-employment accidents.

Important: PERKESO applies a "Once In, Always In" principle. Employees who choose to remain in the scheme, or who opt back in after previously opting out, generally continue participating across future employment unless otherwise provided under PERKESO's rules.

What Does LINDUNG 24 Jam Cover?

The scheme provides protection for eligible accidents that happen outside working hours and are not related to your employment.

Examples include:

  1. Sports and recreational injuries
  2. Slipping or falling at home
  3. Personal road accidents during weekends or holidays
  4. Accidents while running personal errands

These accidents are different from workplace accidents, which continue to be covered under PERKESO's Employment Injury Scheme.

What Is Not Covered?

Generally, LINDUNG 24 Jam does not cover:

  1. Workplace accidents
  2. Work-related commuting accidents
  3. Occupational diseases
  4. Illnesses or medical conditions not caused by an accident
  5. Accidents that occur outside Malaysia

Claims are assessed according to the Employees' Social Security Act 1969 and PERKESO's guidelines.

How Much Is the Contribution?

LINDUNG 24 Jam contributions are fully borne by the employee. Employers are responsible for deducting and remitting the contribution to PERKESO through payroll.

The contribution is implemented in three phases and applies to monthly wages up to a RM6,000 wage ceiling.

Phase

Effective Period

Employee Contribution Rate

Maximum Monthly Contribution*

Phase 1

1 June 2026 – 31 May 2028

Approximately 0.75%

Phase 3

Note: PERKESO calculates contributions using official statutory contribution tables (wage brackets) rather than a simple percentage formula. Employers should always refer to the latest PERKESO contribution schedule when processing payroll.

Example

Farhan earns RM4,000 per month.

Under Phase 1, his LINDUNG 24 Jam contribution is RM30.00 per month, based on the applicable PERKESO contribution table.

What If You Have More Than One Employer?

Employees with more than one employer only need to contribute once under the LINDUNG 24 Jam scheme.

You should select one primary employer through Portal Lindung Faedah, and the SKBBK contribution will only be deducted through that employer. This helps avoid duplicate deductions while ensuring continuous coverage.

What Benefits Can You Receive?

Eligible employees may receive benefits such as:

  1. Medical treatment at PERKESO panel clinics or government hospitals
  2. Temporary Disablement Benefit
  3. Permanent Disablement Benefit
  4. Dependants' Benefit
  5. Funeral Management Benefit
  6. Physical rehabilitation services
  7. Prosthetic and orthotic support
  8. Constant Attendance Allowance for eligible cases

The actual benefits depend on the nature of the accident, eligibility requirements, and PERKESO's assessment.

Should You Participate?

Whether you should participate depends on your personal circumstances.

LINDUNG 24 Jam may be worth considering if you:

  1. Want protection against accidents outside work
  2. Frequently travel during your personal time
  3. Participate in sports or recreational activities
  4. Want additional social security protection beyond workplace accidents

If you already have personal accident insurance, compare the benefits before making your decision. LINDUNG 24 Jam is a statutory social security scheme and complements, rather than replaces, private insurance.
